Hotel history

The Boutique Hotel Dubná Skala**** is situated in the Art Nouveau-style building that was built by Jozef Karas between 1906 and 1913. Originally, it was a two-storey house built on the site of the former wood and clay houses. Karas ran a restaurant. One of the last owners of the Hotela Dubná Skala was Mayor of Žilina JUDr. Vojtech Tvrdý, politician in the times of the first Slovak Republic. In the period of socialism, Dubná Skala was renowned mainly by its wine cellar and restaurant with a live-playing Gypsy band. An extensive reconstruction and modernisation of the hotel was carried out in 2006 by its new owner, but even then the owner remained the original appearance of the building and, especially, its unique atmosphere and ambience. Thus, today’s four-star hotel continues its long tradition and well-established name (Source: Peter Štanský a Milan Novák).
